Around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, MCPD Officer Kevin Johnson was running stationary radar on Carters Valley Road at Grange Hall Church when he observed a westbound black Ford pickup traveling 73 mph in a 45 mph zone pass a vehicle in a double yellow line zone.
When Johnson attempted a traffic stop the driver refused to stop and continued west on Carters Valley Road.
The driver then turned north on Looneys Gap Road, and upon reaching the Stanley Valley Road intersection attempted a left turn.
"That's when the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran through a wood sided fence," Johnson stated in his report. "The vehicle then came to a stop. That's when I observed a male in a light colored jacket exit the the driver's side door and take off running; jump another fence, and then take off running through a field."
The driver, identified as Austin Eugin Morris, 19, 202 Ramey Town Road, Church Hill, was apprehended following a brief foot pursuit.
Morris was charged with felony evading arrest, two counts of reckless endangerment, reckless driving, evading arrest by foot, driving without a license, improper passing and no insurance.
He was arraigned Wednesday in Hawkins County Sessions court where his bond was set at $10,000. His next court date was set for Nov. 14.
